Our Origins
The Delaware Burger Battle was founded as the Wilmington Burger Battle in 2012 and has operated continually since then. Delaware Food Battles added Grilled Cheese Battle to the lineup in 2018.
*The pandemic years, 2020-2021, caused a hiatius.
We have maintained a high-quality guest experience as the burger event has expanded to over 800 attendees annually, and the grilled cheese event reached several hundred in its inaugural year.
$83,000 was raised from 2012-2022.
Our
Qualifications
This annual event is put on by a team of professionals donating pro bono services and a corps of community volunteers.
A wildly enthusiastic population of burger lovers is what makes us successful, and a generous list of restaurant and business sponsors with a shared charitable goal.
Judges are hand-picked with impartiality and great taste in mind.
What We Do
Each year in late summer, Delaware burger enthusiasts and a field of competitive chefs come together for a fierce yet friendly competition in a family picnic setting. The all-inclusive ticket allows guests to try all the burgers, and enjoy adult beverages and soft drinks, as well as music and activities.
In addition to being a day of great food, the Delaware Burger Battle helps the community. Thanks to our all-volunteer team of planners, 100% of net proceeds are donated to charity.
Benefits
Participants and winners each benefit from the competition. In addition to national and regional press coverage, restaurants have reported thousands of dollars in burger sales in the week following a win.
